If I had to describe myself, it would be in a word that has many meanings with a complexity which falls off the tongue.
A word made up of many elements, is deceptive in appearance, and creates an illusion from the imagination.
My word would be Phantasmagoric. ~Summer Ross

A-Z: "W"

I give you a book with a teaser :)

Teaser:

"I gasped, hands flying to his shoulders to shove away when he pulled on my chi. With an exquisite ping of adrenaline, I fought him, even as he gripped me harder, forcing me to stay. The shock was heady, and with a sound of desperation, I broke our kiss. Panting, I stared at him, breathless in the chill winter afternoon. Damn that had felt good....

"Take it back," he whispered, teasing me. His fingers touched everything, running smoothly over me to make me shiver in the dusky light coming through the slats. Here, there, never long anywhere, to drive me almost mad. Oh God, I'll  make him beg for it."

A-Z: "T"

My post today is all about Time, I have created a mash poem for you- can you guess the poets I have used? I'll give you one hint: I used 4 separate poet authors.

Time, Time where for art thou gone?
Could you be in a sock?
Are you stuck in a clock?
I’ll find you somewhere down the road,
Where you will tick with a tock that was seconds ago
Once upon a darkened mantle, while I searched for a candle
Time, Oh Time, where for art thou gone?

A-Z: "S"

What does Mary Tighe and the letter "S" have in common? Why poetry of course! Here I give you one stanza from Tighe's "Psyche" which is ultimately a love poem based on the Greek gods. Here is what I want you to do- Read it out loud- there is no other way to experience this stanza fully...

"A placid smile plays o'er each roseate lip,
Sweet severed lips! while thus your pearls disclose,
That slumbering thus unconscious she may sip
The cruel presage of her future woes?
Lightly, as fall the dews upon the rose,
Upon the coral gates of that sweet cell
The fatal drops he pours; nor yet he knows,
Nor, though a God, can he presaging tell
How he himself shall mourn the ills of that sad spell! "

Source for stanza (read whole poem here)

Did you notice the flowing "sssss"? Its meant to be very sensual for the reader not only to imagine but to hear.

A-Z: "Q"

The letter Q is a very unique letter, writing it is even fun, though I dispised it when I learned how to write in cursive because I always mixed "q" with "g" LOL

Today Q will be represented by quotes: Enjoy!

"Detail makes the difference between boring and terrific writing. It’s the difference between a pencil sketch and a lush oil painting. As a writer, words are your paint. Use all the colors."
~Rhys Alexander

"It only takes one person to change your life – you."
~Ruth Casey

"Never throw up on an editor."
~Ellen Datlow

"You can take for granted that people know more or less what a street, a shop, a beach, a sky, an oak tree look like. Tell them what makes this one different."
~Neil Gaiman

"There are no rules in writing. There are useful principles. Throw them away when they're not useful. But always know what you're throwing away."
~Will Shetterly

"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm."

A-Z: "O"

Dear Obligations,

I object to your consistent restraint, your obsessive idea of keeping me busy, and your occultist time management theories. Your continued resistance to my desires to do what I please are an occupational hazard. You occupy my time with offensive errands, homework, and activities. I find your whining in my head obstructive to my imagination. I am taking this opportunity to tell you I have no other option but to order you out of my thoughts and daily habits, as you are hindering my ability to be free.

A-Z: "N"

N is represented today by the Nymph. (If you are offended by small amount of nudity- please do not read this post.)

A Nymph is not a Fairy. They do not have wings. They are said to be a spirit of nature, a Greek myth. They are most commonly found around lakes and the sea as well as in mountains.

The Nymphs have several different kinds of spirits in the Nymph family, which I wont go into at the moment because it would be a very long post. One thing to note is these are a female creature similar to a siren. They are very provocative and are said to be seductive creatures/spirits.

A-Z: "M blogfest"

Today's "M" post is courtesy of Wendy Tyler Ryan's M blogaversary blogfest

The rules: 50-500 words your interpretation of the dark
These words must be included:

mist(y)
mambo
moon
musk(y)
mongrel
myth
Here is my entry:

Myth hid behind shrubs as she watched Mambo dance in the moon light with the other fey. Their wings shimmered in the misty meadow. The hues from the moon acted as a spotlight for their circular motions. They were graceful and light on their feet. Myth was none of these. Her silver skin glimmered at night and by day, she looked like everyone else.

“Anybody know where Myth is?” Mongrel asked.

Myth watched him glide from tree to tree searching for her. He was her best friend and she never told him. It happened so fast with the birth of the new moon that she didn’t have time to do anything about the change. Puberty shifted fairy wings, or created new colors on them. For Myth it was different. The change hadn’t yet completed and her new form wouldn’t come until the next full moon. So she hid.

“I haven’t seen her anywhere; you know she has been missing every dance since the change of the night.” Rayn replied hovering beside Mongrel.

Myth fluttered further back, her luminous dark wings caught on the shrub twigs.

“There you are!” Mongrel flew down.

Myth attempted to hide herself but the light from the stars reflected off her silvery skin. Mongrel grabbed her arm and tugged. Myth was pulled out and everyone’s eyes turned to her.

“Why did you do that!” Myth flew back into the shrubs. Tears challenged her eyes. She attempted to fly back home but the twigs caught her again.

“Let me help you.” Mongrel said.

“I don’t need your help. I just want…” Myth tugged on her wing, “to go home.” She lost against the salty tears. They streamed down her cheeks. Everyone would call her freak and she knew it. She had never seen anyone change this way and they would all gossip.

“Hold on a wink, if you just let me…” Mongrel’s feet landed on the ground and his iridescent wings flattened against his back.

Myth felt a small tug on the bottom of her wing and she was free.

“Don’t go!” Rayn called.

Myth halted and turned to see her friends.

“You’re beautiful…” Mambo’s voice drifted in from behind Rayn.

“I’m not changed yet, I don’t know what’s happening to me.” The tears fell faster. Myth felt arms surround her and she looked up to see Mongrel, Rayn, and Mambo all huddled around her. They were accepting her.

“It’s okay, don’t worry about the change, we like you no matter what you look like.” Mongrel said.
“I know what will make you feel better! Come dance with us.” Mambo smiled.

Myth’s stomach flipped, he asked her to dance with them. Her heart flittered, “Really?”

All three fey pulled her out in the moon’s soft beams. The light reflected off her skin and a surge of musky energy sifted through her wings. Mongrel and Mambo grabbed her hands and they twirled in the starlight.

A-z: "L"

I have another flash fiction piece for you:

 Llama Dilemma
           By Summer Ross

(You may not copy or reproduce this story in any way)

“I’m serious, he likes pickles.” Jenna put her hands on her hips. Her best friend Lacey stood before her in a white tank top and jean shorts.

“Llamas don’t eat pickles.” Lacey retorted her eyes on the strange creature in the back yard.

“I can’t say if they all do- but this one does, here watch.” Jenna pulled a baby dill pickle from the jar on the table and handed it slowly to the animal. He sniffed it first then his long red tongue snake out to grab the sour green treat leaving a trail of spit behind. Jenna wiped her hand on her own jeans staring down her friend.

“Okay- he likes pickles, but how did he end up here?”

“I came out and here he was standing there staring at me.” Jenna surveyed her yard. The chain link fence intact. Now that she thought about it, even the gate barely let one person in, so the llama had to have jumped the fence.

A gurgle erupted from the llama’s stomach and something hit the ground with a thud.

“Jenna, I think you should look at this.” Lacey said walking around to check out the present the animal left.

Jenna walked around her friend and there, to her surprise, was an old shoe. She glanced at the llama, her friend, and back to the shoe. Its laces were worn from multiple uses and one side had been blown out as if someone’s foot had grown too big for it.

“Did he just…” Jenna’s words trailed as she thought. How could a llama poop out a shoe?

“Yeah, I think he did. What have you been feeding him?”

“Me! I only gave him pickles.”

As both women stared at the shoe in disbelief, they had not noticed the llama turned to face them. Its mouth opened wider and wider. Its sloppy tongue lulled out towards them and in one long sweep gobbled up the two and swallowed them whole.

A-Z: "J"

In case you didn't know I write poetry. Recently I have started a  fairy chapbook. Here is a fun poem for the letter J- which happens to start the name of a curious little fairy named Jena.

(You do not have permission to copy this in anyway.)

Jena

I saw a big round human once,
as white as fresh dropped snow,
with dark brown eyes and an orange nose.
I flew to say hello.

His arms extended from his sides
like branches on a tree.
My friends watched on with silly grins,
he would not speak to me.

I fluttered 'round his face once more,
to give a little show-
And then my friends called out to me,
the man was made of snow.

A-Z: "I"

This post is about the word "Illegal"

Since I live in Wyoming, I thought it would be fun to tell you some humorous Laws in my state.

-You may not fish with a machine gun.
(And here I thought this would be so much quicker than a pole!)

-It is illegal for women to stand within five feet of a bar while drinking.
(While this may not be enforced, it is funny because Wyoming was the first state to have equality for women.)

-You may not take a picture of a rabbit from January to April without an official permit.
(Guess that jackalope- rabbit with horns- will get away)

In Cheyenne:

-You may not take a shower on a Wednesday.

In Newcastle:

-You may not make love in a freezer.
(BRRRRRR)

A-Z: Handwriting

What does your handwriting say about you?
Click here to Try it out
The results of my analysis say:

You plan ahead, and are interested in beauty, design, outward appearance, and symmetry.
You are a shy, idealistic person who does not find it easy to have relationships, especially intimate ones.
You are affectionate, passionate, expressive, and future-oriented.
You are a talkative person, maybe even a busybody!
You enjoy life in your own way and do not depend on the opinions of others.

Honestly this wasn't that far off- I do not really consider myself shy, but relationships are hard for me.

Do you think handwriting analysis holds any value?

A-z: "F"

Hello Fairy friends-
I bet you couldn't guess what I would do the "F" day about---

Did you know: (Yes I made these all up by myself)

  •  Dragon flies are put in a fairies' dust bag as a practical joke. Something about a Dragon fly really mucks up the magic inside making it do all sorts of crazy things! "Mischief magic"

  • When a dragon fly gets fairy dust on it, it turns into a Lady frog (anagram)

  • A firefly turns into a fairy as it matures.

  •  and finally if you see a shooting star its because a little curious fairy tried to ride one.

Have you seen any shooting stars lately?

What do you get when you mix a male elf and female fairy?

In the comments put what you think it is, after you comment
highlight next to the answer to see if you were right.

Answer:  A firefly

A-z: Description

Today I'm giving you a description, because writing stories relies upon the ability to describe something on a page that a reader can see, feel, touch, or hear. I'm picking the description I think is best out of all my writing so far, it will only be a single paragraph.

The air coats my small body in a cool wrapper. I place my hands under my back to keep them warm. The fan kicks on from the ceiling and a fresh breeze drifts between my legs. I shiver at the delicate touch of the airs’ fingertips. My toes are not frozen but they are ice cold when I sit up and place them Indian style under my legs. From the high point of the bed, I can see the white marble textured floor. It is glazed over letting my deformed reflection stare back at me asking how much longer I must wait. My heart pounds in my chest as I hear feet scuffle across the floor outside the room. The door is blocking everyone from view. Its small silver handle turns slowly as if it is relishing in my anticipation. The light from the ceiling flickers a quick blink and I think back to how I got here.

What did you picture as you read this?

A-z Challenge: Conversation

Conversation is so important in the real world just as in fiction of any kind. So I decided to try my hand at a 100 word flash fiction story incorporating conversation only- well at least to the ending line. It was hard because I had to choose very specifically how to get the story across to the reader in not only a short word count but also using only a conversation between character.

*I'm sorry to those looking for more of the short story- "Bucket" I had not planned for more on it, and my posts were planned in advance.*

Cali's Note

“I fell from a tree.”
“What in the world were you doing in a tree Cali?”
“Sarah, I’ve been waking up falling from things.”
“So what happened?”
“I woke up falling and landed in the yard. When I got up this note was under me.”
“Oh my gosh! Do you think it’s him?”
“I know it’s him! I can’t read it, you do it. Please Sarah.”
“Alright…Cali it won’t be long now my sweet by the end of this note- your mine.”
“He’s…Oh God…he’s coming for me!”
“Its signed Darian, King of Elves.”
Sarah disappeared and the note floated down.

A-z Challenge: Bucket

In my attempts to write Flash fiction- I decided "B" is hard to find something to write about- Perhaps because there are words from the "B" category that go well with names of people and things, so I decided on a bucket. The challenge was trying to incorporate a bucket and conversation into a 100 word story...

Bucket

“What’s with the bucket?” The male customer asked

“Just sits there.” The shop owner pinged out the register and handed him his change. Her hands clicked a button under the counter. She went in back knowing the next to walk in would be the tramp and her friend.

“I wish Charles was available more,” a soft feminine voice came through the bucket in the back.

“It doesn’t matter, as long as he buys me things,” a tart voice replied. “He has a wife.”

The shop owner had her husband now. She switched the recorder off and headed to the counter.

A-z: "A"

I will be telling you a story in 100 words or less today. Enjoy!

Apple
By Summer Ross

A brother and sister were fighting over a bike when the brother pushed his sister down.

“You are an Apple!” she cried standing up to him.

“No, you’re an apple,” he stuck out his tongue and stood over the bike.

“Children what is going on here? Why are you calling each other apples?” Mother interjected.

Sister said, “Because he is and that’s what you call daddy, only you use double eses.”

“She started it!” Brother retorted crossing his arms.

“That’s enough. Children you shouldn’t call each other names even if Mommy and Daddy do.” Mother held back her laugh.

~ So Did anyone get you with a good prank yet for April Fools day?
